Natural Born Hustler’ by Josh Hoyer & Soul Colossal is a collection of timeless songs slated to last through the decades. In an age where artists get caught up with keeping up with the times and fitting into the conversation, Hoyer and his musical cohorts make music for grown folks with their authentic, real, and honest songwriting. Produced by Color Red founder Eddie Roberts, ‘Natural Born Hustler’ speaks to fans of early 70s funky blues, doo-wop with a modern twist, and spellbinding psychedelic soul. From start to finish, each song breathes a life of its own into the record and it is evident that Hoyer’s spirited fanbase and eclectic palette of sounds are not confined by age, upbringing, religion, creed, or differences—they are meant for anyone who seeks the medicine of music.

lyrics
I know I've been running wild.
Sitting still just ain't my style.
I know I should be slowing down.
Can't seem to be satisfied.
The only way I've known 'til now.
If I'm moving nothing gets me down.
It ain't right for us to be alone.
I know, I know, I know.
But changing is the hardest thing that you will ever learn.
Changing the part of me that is killing me, seems there's no place you can turn.
Changing the heart of things, well it seems to me it will always burn.
I got this passion deep inside.
These demons I can't seem to quiet.
Keep moving down this lonely road.
Second guessing everything I'm told.
See the serpents put me to sleep at night.
Make me hide from the morning light.
One of these nights I bet I'll die alone.
I know, I know, I know.
But changing is the hardest thing that you will ever learn.
Changing the part of me that is killing me, seems there's no place you can turn.
Changing the heart of things, well it seems to me it will always burn.
It will burn, baby, burn

The flac version of this sounds great in my truck... not a crunch, clip or boom to be heard. That, in itself, gets this major points.
This is a lovely combination of early Floyd, U2 and a few San Francisco bands from the '60s with a heavy dose of Helmet tossed in. It's definitely best of breed when it comes to modern psych stuff. Even without a Hammond B3, it gets an easy A+... rick-taylor
